Academy Conversion

Consultation on academy conversion to join Bourne Education Trust

Philip Southcote has been an associate member of Bourne Education Trust (‘BET’) since September 2020. During this time, we have benefitted from multiple services as associate members. The Governors are now proposing we academise and have applied to become an academy under the Academies Act 2010. As part of the process, we are consulting on whether the school’s academy conversion should take place.

BET was established in 2011 and has grown steadily since then. It is largely Surrey based with 20 of its 26 schools here but has also expanded into Hampshire and Richmond. Made up of 21 academies, 4 associate schools and one free school, which is due to open in September 2024. Of its 26 schools, there are 13 primaries, 9 secondaries, 2 alternative provision, 2 special schools and the new free school. It is responsible for the education of approximately 12,500 pupils and employs just over 1,300 staff.

A consultation meeting was held for parents and carers and the wider general public on 5:00pm Wednesday 3rd May 2023 at Philip Southcote School, Addlestone Moor, KT15 2QH. Representatives of BET and Philip Southcote will be present to discuss any questions you may have.

The Governors are seeking your views on the conversion to academy status and joining BET with effect from 1st November 2023. We would be grateful if you could complete the short questionnaire and return to school marked FAO Chair of Governors, Conversion, Philip Southcote School, Addlestone Moor, KT15 2QH by Friday 2nd June 2023, after which the governors will finalise their decision.
