Mindfulness

Mindfulness helps train pupil’s attention to be more aware of what is actually happening, rather than worrying about what has happened or might happen. It trains pupil’s to direct their attention to whatever is happening in the present moment:  breathing, other physical sensations, thoughts, emotions, or even everyday activities like walking and eating. This awareness means pupil’s respond more skillfully to whatever the present-moment throws at them.

The school runs mindfulness sessions at the start and end of each day. The sessions take place in small groups in the calm environment of the Sensory Room and are led by a member of staff.

Parents are encouraged to discuss with their child’s form tutor if they feel they would benefit from a mindfulness intervention. 

The priorities for an individual pupil will be identified in the Mindfulness Referral Form and through discussion with their form tutor and other staff in the school.
